How do you structure your thinking?

This morning I gave the ten minute presentation at the business networking group I belong to. Each Thursday morning we meet at the golf club on Beverley Westwood for breakfast and to talk business. As part of the meeting there is a ten minute presentation which members take it in turns to deliver. I had volunteered to do this morning. Most people will say something about their business and the problems their company can address. Which is fair enough, but I like to slip in something a bit more interesting. My previous talks have covered subjects such as the power of thought and Carpe Diem and have gone down well with the rest of the group.
For this morning I decided to talk about the structure of thinking. I started by showing how conventional language and writing create a linear approach to thinking where everything tends to be organised into prioritised lists. Even if there is no actual priority we cannot help but see the order in which a list is written. However, a bind rune can challenge us to massively simplify a subject and then think about it in a linked, but not prioritised way. This means that you can come at a problem from any starting point as there is no beginning or end, just a process of exploring the connections within the bind rune. This is the bind rune I showed as an example in my talk http://iceandfire.org.uk/images/pwhbindrune1.png Any idea what it might mean? Take a look anyway, it is going to be the basis for my theme for the next few months, so I will be explaining it soon enough.
My talk got a good response this morning. I believe that runes are a great way of getting people to think, if explained in the right way. I also think that a lot of intelligent people know that they have been told what to think their whole lives, but not how to think for themselves. Any insight into how to think for themselves is often much appreciated by independent minded people.
At the Runes and Trees retreat we will be thinking with, and about runes, and how to use them. Two places left as of this evening and tomorrow I will be amending the booking form as the early booking discount is supposed to finish at midnight. I am not staying up to change anything tonight so you still have a bit of time to get the current price.
