A reminder that life is short

Hi I went to a funeral and cremation this week. The deceased wasn't a close friend but I know her husband quite well and V and I wanted to support the family. It was as nice as local crematorium funeral is likely to be and it was well attended. So, there is a sense of having played one's part in supporting the bereaved at a difficult time.
For the living there is also the reminder that we are all mortal and our time is limited on this earth. So if we are going to achieve all the things we think we want to do in this life you can't keep putting them off. It is up to us to get on with what is important to us. Sometimes other people provide just the opportunities we want and need but it is still up to us to grab them and make them our own. An important part of my life has been learning and practising body, mind and spirit training, mainly through martial arts. For me Stav has been the practise which works for me and I was very lucky in having the opportunity to meet Ivar Hafskjold and train with him. Just as important as meeting Ivar was my willingness to grab the opportunity and do something with it, learn, practise and eventually teach in my own right.
Ever wondered what it takes to really get the benefit from Stav or any body, mind and spirit training practice?
The answer is; 'repetitive practice, without constantly looking for validation.' Ten thousand repetitions (100 times a day for 100 days) of one basic move would be a good start. Of course the best time to start was over 20 years ago when I started, the next best time? Now.
I have posted an article called Ten Thousand Times at http://www.iceandfire.org
If you want to learn how to train and what to practice then why not get along to:
Somerset Stav Martial Arts this Saturday morning for our Self-defence seminar http://somersetstav.co.uk/sd.html
Minneapolis, MN, USA on the 14th of May for our USA seminar http://iceandfire.us/events/
Train with Ivar Hafskjold in Somerset on the 2nd and 3rd of July http://stavcamp.org/ih.html
