Back to basics

I have moved the Stav classes around so Monday evenings are now the
beginners classes and Tuesdays will be the advanced weapons
classes. We had a new person start last night which is great and
two of my regulars came too. Because it was a foundation class we
concentrated on staff against staff two person drills. In a sense
these exercises are too easy and simple for students who have
graduated to the 'advanced class'. However there is a huge
difference between knowing how to do a drill and having extracted
the full benefit from practicing that drill. The fact is that the
right training drill never gives up everything you can learn from
it. There will be certain actions which can be practiced every day
of your life and will bring you closer to knowing how to find your
centre and focus your energy every time you do them.
The first two person staff drill striking from Ar to As will do
this once you are conscious of where your centre is and how to know
when you are moving from your centre. This became clear during the
session last night so although nothing new and exiting was learned
a slightly deeper understanding of how to move seemed to be sinking
in.
I quite often get asked when I am going to write a book on martial
training in Stav. I probably should for my own entertainment and
as a promotional tool. But really the only manual you need is the
Hagl rune. You can see what I mean here (scroll down to the first
video) http://iceandfire.org/wetraining.html I would be happy to
run the course described at that link although I have not had any
signups for it. Perhaps having watched the video everything is so
clear that actually coming on the course would be superfluous.
Yes, I expect that is the answer.
