A lot to do

Published: Tue, 03/04/14

Hi
Okay, I knew there was going to be a lot to do. Yes, I was in
denial about how much work it would be but we are still making good
progress with the Stav Centre. Yesterday I signed the lease,
transferred the utilities and told the council we had started
trading for business rates purposes. In terms of physical
reconstruction I am well on the way with building the stud walls
for the changing room/store space and I need just one more panel of
plywood to finish the facia at the front. This week I will finish
building the changing room and reinstate the plumbing for the
kitchen area and, if the weather holds up, start painting the facia
board at the front. It is one of those tasks that will never
really be finished. There will always be scope for further
improvements and developments and we will do them as time and
resources become available.

The nice thing is that I am not just doing it for the money. I
have spent years now doing the same kind of thing for other people
in their homes and other spaces. Then we get paid and leave and it
is for the customer to enjoy the results. That is fine, as far as
it goes, but last night we had the advanced weapons Monday night
class. I was able to teach spear to people who have enough
experience and competence to really get something out of this king
of weapons. Tonight will be the foundation beginners class which
is where I can lay the foundations for the kind of training we were
doing last night. Having the Stav Centre to teach in is already
enabling a level of teaching and training which has never been
possible before. Think what will be achieved when the walls have
been repainted! Or maybe that will make no difference to someone
already dedicated to Stav training. But it may make it easier to
bring people in for their foundation training. Either way
dedicated spaces are important, there is entertainment to be had in
cyberspace but if you really want to make something real you have
to experience it in time and space.

This coming Saturday in Salisbury I want to look at training with
pole weapons, mainly the staff but we will explore the
possibilities of the spear too, and how to train by yourself as
well as having plenty of time to practice two person drills as
well. http://www.iceandfire.org.uk/train.html

I am also still looking for people who are willing to train for a
full weekend this spring. The weekend courses in Crewkerne will
teach you how to train in Stav so that you can develop your
awareness of the web in your own time until the next training
opportunity. See http://www.iceandfire.org/wetraining.html
