Everyday miracles

Hi
It is just after 0630hrs here and I have just been out into my
garden. I admit that each morning I have a quick check on my
vegetable garden to see how the plants are doing. I am doing quite
lot of watering each evening and stuff is growing fast now, we will
be eating our own corgettes (Zucchini for American readers) by this
weekend and we are picking raspberries every day. The one that
really puzzles me is the runner beans, how do they always find
their way to the nearest pole to grow up? They may be planted a
foot from the base of a stick, they can initially grow away from
the stick and then, suddenly one morning, the tendril has come back
the other way and is spiraling around the support. How do they
know how to find the nearest support? I can understand growing
against gravity and towards the light but how does a plant find an
object, know that it has found it and then adapt to it? It shows
both an instinct to search, a sense of touch to show finding and
then the ability to grasp hold and continue growing. And how does
a bean plant search? I have never noticed the stem just waving
around until it finds the pole, it just seems to grow straight to
the support when the time comes. If it is random chance how come
they all find the right pole regardless of the direction they start
growing in. Can bean plants see? Do they talk to each other?

Maybe a biologist can give a simple and convincing explanation and
I would be interested to hear what it is. But explicable or not I
find the process of beans finding their pole fascinating and these
plants have my profound respect.

I have had some questions about making a rune set. I will go into
more detail another time but for today I will just say that pieces
of card with the runes written on them with a felt tip pen work
just fine. Then use a cup or bowl to pick cards out of. How do
you pick out the 'right' rune? I have no idea but in my
experience you do. But surely it isn't possible and it has to
be random chance which rune you pick out? Maybe, but then how does
the bean plant know where to find the pole?

I put the final rune picture up this morning, the one for Yr so the
Pintrest board is complete now
http://pinterest.com/iandf/rune-paintings-by-k-j-butcher/ , if
anyone feels inclined to do a facebook 'like' them please
do I would be interested to see what effect it has. If you want to
read this sequence on the runes again you can find previous
postings at http://archive.aweber.com/iceandfire/ but please note
that the one for Thor is titled 'That was Wyrd' and it comes
after As.
