New booklet, but don't get too excited

Hi
I have written a new booklet. Don't get too exited though. It
is a bit specialised and nothing to do with Stav. I know we often
claim that Stav can apply to anything and that is true but this
booklet is a guide to studying the British Standard 7671 17th
edition 2008 amendment of the Requirements for Electrical
Installations. A4 format and 464 pages of, well wiring regulations
with the emphasis on safety. Last week I took a three day course
to study the regs and passed a 60 question multiple choice exam
with a mark of over 86%, so I got 52 out of 60 right. I intend to
develop our handyman business further by being registered as a
Domestic Installer and, amongst other requirements I need to have
passed 2382 Electrical Installation exam. I got through as did
everyone else on the course but there was a sense that we had been
thrown in at the deep end and I felt that it would have been nice
to have had some kind of more gentle introduction. So I have
written one in the form of a 30 page booklet as a primer. If
anyone really wants to read it then I will be happy to let you have
copy but it really is a bit specialised. However anyone intending
to work in the electrical industry in almost any capacity
apparently needs to have passed this exam so, although it is
certainly a niche market, it is actually quite a large one and, as
far as I can see there isn't anything quite like my booklet out
there at the moment.

So what qualifies me to write such a booklet? I haven't
actually had any feedback on it yet so I may find I am not
qualified. But I thought it was worth a go because I did pass the
course and I would have like to have had access to what I have just
written. Also talking to other people in the group I sensed that
they would have benefited too. Also, although our tutor was very
good and we all passed, I had a sense that because he is so
familiar with the subject matter it must be hard to remember what
it is like to encounter the regs for the first time. For me the
experience is still fresh. Another thing is that I have a lot of
experience of textual study, academically, as a preacher and
studying mythology through Stav and this put me in good stead for
engaging with the wiring regs book. It is even laid out rather
like the Bible in sections, chapters and what are effectively
verses.

I have also been a teacher for many years and I was trained as a
school teacher and actually worked in schools for a few years. I
was trained as an army instructor and I have done a lot of adult
education over the years. And of course taught Stav for nearly 20
years and have taught other martial arts before then. So I
understand learning processes and how to accelerate them. So what
I am trying to do is apply this experience for the benefit of
people who have this very particular challenge. I still don't
know how it will go down but it seemed like a good idea to write it
at the time. Will let you know what happens if you are interested.

I am also trying to make sure I finish what I start in the way of
projects. There will be more Stav stuff in the pipeline but I am
going to complete one project at a time. The last one was getting
David's book available online
http://iceandfire.org.uk/elit.html.
But in the meantime you can learn face to face, next course is on
the 6th of April in Somerset. It is a really lovely hall and I
will be looking at how to really get the most out of working with
the staff and cudgel.
And don't forget USA training in May and the summer camp in
September, there is a lot I would like to share with you and you
get a chance to work with Ivar.
