Outrunning the bear
Published: Thu, 04/11/13
Two hikers out in the wilds someplace where they have bears. (So
not Hampstead Heath for example.) They come face to face with a
big, mean, hungry, real life teddy. For a moment they are frozen
in terror and then one of the hikers dumps his pack and jacket and
legs it. His companion yells after him.
"What are you doing? You can't out run a bear?"
And the running man yells back.
" I don't need to outrun the bear, I just need to out run
you!"
I am sure I have shared this before and okay, it is not a very nice
story but it does have a useful moral, apart from. "Choose
your hiking companions carefully." This story is often told
in the context of marketing to encourage people to at least try
something, your marketing may be rubbish but if you are trying at
all you are probably doing better than most of your competition.
As I have said before I like to train with the best to improve my
own practice and develop my teaching. I had an enlightening Guided
Chaos session yesterday during which I was reminded of the power of
relaxation, and I don't find relaxing easy. This weekend is
the Noble Science event and there will be some very good people
teaching there, which is of course why I am making the effort to
go. The downside to learning from the best is that you keep
finding your limitations and realising how little one actually has
learned.
So I am sure there could be better Stav training coming up in the
USA in May and at the Summer camp in September than I can provide.
Ivar will be there for part of the Summer Camp and I will be
looking forward to training with him again, (there you go training
with the best again) but apart from that I will do as best I can.
We have a good venue for Summer Camp this year and I am going to
try and learn from previous mistakes. I should be getting details
of my flights this weekend to the USA in May. At least the
opportunities to learn Stav are there.
