Nightmare journeys in Somerset

Published: Wed, 11/21/12

Hi

Still finishing off a project in Bristol so I came back last night
to teach class in Crewkerne. Filthy wet night and there was an
accident completely blocking the A37 but thanks to the Blackberry
navigation system I was able to turn round and find an alternative
route. Then there was a flood further down where there had been
another accident but I was able to drive through that. So I made
it back in time, just. Life can be exiting down here in Somerset
you know.

For training we have been working on using the lines of the web in
the body for disrupting balance. We have drills for practicing
safely but that just gives us something to work with. What matters
is developing an awareness of the lines so that you can cope with
whatever happens, not just the circumstances that your techniques
are prepared for. This of course applies to every aspect of life
and martial arts is just a way of training and testing that it
works. It is about moving from just going through the motions to
actually having a powerful effect. As you throw a training partner
off balance by genuinely finding the lines of their web you know
you have a degree of power and control over a situation. We have
been having some fun doing just this on Tuesday evenings.

It isn't so hard to learn how to do either if you are prepared
to train with an open mind. Next courses are listed at
http://www.iceandfire.org.uk/forthcoming.html and the next date is
the 1st of December in Oxford. Also there is an afternoon training
session in Crewkerne this coming Saturday, email me for more
details if you are interested in that.

Now I am on my way back to Bristol and I hope the journey is less
eventful than last night.
