A gangster in the White House

Some thoughts on Donald Trump’s first five months as POTUS (President of the United States).
First let me make it clear that I am just making some observations here and I claim no particular understanding of what is actually going on in the mind of President Trump. In fact it would be reasonable to state that the workings of the Donald’s mind is a mystery up there with questions such as how the universe was actually created, what was the Good Lord thinking when he created the Platypus, and why do Americans think eating peanut butter and jelly (which translates to jam for civilised people) in the same sandwich is a good idea?
There is not even much point in listening to, or reading, the words that come from the mouth or social media account of the Orange man as they rarely make a great deal of sense and will almost certainly be contradicted within 24 hours anyway. All we can do is enjoy the show, preferably from a safe distance. Although when it comes to the effects which the USA can have on war and economies, to say nothing of disease, propaganda, and culture a ‘safe distance’ from the fall out of Trump’s ideas would probably mean relocating to a parallel universe, and hoping that Trump isn’t worshipped as a god there or something even worse.
Anyway, what have I observed so far?
Perhaps the most disturbing impression I am getting is that President Trump has been watching too many gangster movies. When Marlon Brando’s character in the God Father mumbled; ‘Make him an offer he can’t refuse.’ It just seemed like a great scene in a fictional movie. Trump’s attitude to negotiating trade deals with threats of tariffs which would have effectively stopped international commerce dead in its tracks sounded like lines that were cut out of a mobster film for being ridiculously over the top. Then Trump just seemed to lose interest in trade and moved on.
Now Trump talks about Iran as if they are just finding out what happens when you fail to accept the ‘offer he can’t refuse’. ‘They should have made the deal.’ Trump keeps repeating to the world as if the Iranians had never seen The Godfather and thus only had themselves to blame for the violence and destruction which has been visited on them by the kosher branch of Trump’s crime syndicate. Having murdered 20 senior members of the Iranian regime (in many cases in their homes along with their families and neighbours) the president now says that he knows where the supreme leader of Iran is hiding and they are not going to kill him, just yet.
Sorry, but this isn’t statesmanship or leadership of the ‘free world’ this is gangster talk that no sensible mafia boss would actually say out loud in public. The reason that sensible gangsters are more careful what they say than the White House Don seems to be capable of being is that sooner or later someone calls your bluff and the would be tyrant becomes a figure of fun.
At time of writing (the evening of Thursday 19th of June 2025) Trump is currently digging himself into the mother of all metaphorical holes. With the full knowledge and support of the USA Isreal has started a war with Iran which initially caught the Islamic State off guard. However, they quickly recovered and retaliated. There are many variables which will make the long term outcome hard to predict. The Western media is doing its best to spin the situation to suggest that Iran has very few missiles and most of the launchers have been destroyed, has no working air defences, is a fragmented society on the verge of insurrection against its government, and that the Israelis have total air superiority. And, the USA will pitch in at any moment and destroy whatever morsels the Israelis leave them to play with.
Iran may only have 2000 missiles and drones, or 20,000, or who knows? And what might the Russians and Chinese supply as time goes on? Many of the destroyed launchers will have been decoys. I have seen reports that 4 Israeli F35s have been shot down in Iranian airspace already and most of Iran is empty and mountainous so it doesn’t much matter if hostile aircraft fly there. As for the US military actually committing forces to combat in Iranian territory it really isn’t as simple as; ‘King Donald commands and we obey, over the hills and far away.’ The Iranians are going to be very careful in avoiding giving the US any excuse to attack in ‘self-defence’. So, in order to comply with US law and the constitution President Trump will need the support of congress. Even if Congress were to approve a declaration of war on Iran international law would require the consent of the United Nations and it is hard to see how such approval could
be obtained. Even if Trump just decided to go ahead anyway and the Pentagon was willing to obey orders of such dubious legality there would be huge risk to US bases in the Middle East from Iranian attacks. Neither would the bombing raids by US planes be risk free. The USAF lost between 16 and 34 B52s shot down during the Vietnam war and I suspect the Iranian AA systems now are superior to the weapons used by the Vietcong half a century ago.
The Israeli government are desperate for Trump to enter the US into their fight. There will be threats of blackmail and other pressure. Perhaps the biggest concern is a false flag incident against a US target providing an excuse for Trump to make an executive order of retaliation. I find it hard to see how such an action could be carried out convincingly when it is so obvious who would benefit. However, the media would accept the excuse, however flimsy.
But what about Iran’s intention to build a nuclear bomb? Come back to me with that question when you have found Saddam Hussain’s weapons of mass destruction. And while you are about it find out how many atomic war heads Israel possesses?
Some say that Trump is a fool who never thinks before he speaks and acts. Others say that Trump is the grand master of five dimensional chess. Perhaps the apparent foolishness is simply Trump’s most sophisticated moves. All may become clear in due course,
What I do believe is that it is possible to understand the principles of combat. Once you understand these principles then it is possible to resolve conflicts with the minimum of violence and damage. I would like to share these principles with certain world leaders and save a lot of suffering, death, and destruction. However, for the moment Stavcamp might have to do for those who are interested. https://www.stavcamp.org/

PS Roland Zerpe has published a book on Stav in English. I have only read the first couple of chapters so far but it looks pretty good. I will write a full review when I have finished, in the meantime you can get a copy from https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stav-Runes-Martial-Art-Philosophy/dp/9180809332
